Calculate Your Life Purpose

Posted by: Louise   in Life Purpose

I have seen so many posts in the blogging community where people are wanting to discover their life purpose. I’m sitting there, wanting to connect with you, and tell you about what I have discovered. Yet, I am also aware of not wanting to jump in and say “hey, everyone, this way!!” I suppose I’m a little shy..

So, I put this blog together so you could discover what yours is, and if you have found you’re way here, thank you and welcome. I’d like to say that Numerology is not the only tool that will help you to reflect on your purpose, and it is not the final answer. Purpose can only be found in the present moment, for that is all we have. Your purpose now, is here, reading this blog. Yet, we somehow know that there is a depth, a truth, a knowing about us - a journey and experience our soul longs for.

Numerology is an amazing and fascinating tool that will support you on this road of self-discovery. There is no right or wrong, there is no answer. There are only reflections in this world that, when you look, you can ask yourself whether you connect with what you see.

Below are two calculations that will identify two things. 1) Your Destiny - who you are walking this lifetime, 2) Your Life Path - the landscape, the journey you walk. Calculate yours, reflect on what you have discovered, and let me know how you get on!

Step 1: Your Destiny

Your name and date of birth collectively reveal your entire life plan and purpose. It IS possible for you to find out what your purpose is, what your strengths are, what you are here for, what you are required to learn.

The name given to you in this lifetime will a surprising amount of information, including (but not limited to):

  • Your destiny - the goal or purpose for you in this lifetime
  • Your personality - how others perceive you
  • Your heart’s desire - the inner you, the hidden motivation that longs to be expressed
  • Your karmic lessons - areas that you need to work on, not done so previously

We will take a look at your destiny, or life goal.

Your Destiny Revealed

Your destiny is the main goal that you are working on in this lifetime. It is a target, that every day, you will always be working on attaining. It is your potential. The total sum of your name given to you at birth reveals the totality of who you are - your nature, and the qualities and abilities that are associated with you.

If you accept reincarnation as a life philosophy, you can view your destiny as a direction, resulting of your soul evolution over many lifetimes. You have built a toolkit that you have brought with you into this life, which will provide you with the tools that you need to complete your assignment. This is why we refer to your potential, it is not a given. If not, it doesn’t make any difference to the here and now, and the knowledge that you do have the ability (tools) to do what you are destined to achieve. The question is, do you want to know your potential, and be your potential?

Each letter of your name, is assigned a number, and each number has a character trait. Therefore, by reviewing the numbers in your name, we can tell quite a lot about you! Complete the following steps, to calculate your Destiny:

Step 1 - Write out your full name as it appears on your birth certificate

Step 2 - Under each letter, using the table below, write the corresponding number.

Table

For example:

 Name

Step 3 - Calculate the sum total of numbers in your name.

You can just add all the numbers together, adding the final double digit in order to reach a single digit 1 - 9.

To get the most information from your name, it is preferential to calculate the total for each of your names first, and then add those totals together. It is the total sum that we are interested in, but later, you can look back and see what each of your individual names give you. It is also important not to miss a master number that may be hidden within your name which are double-digits: 11, 22, & 33. We’ll look at master numbers later.

In the above example, we would calculate the following:

Calculate Destiny

The destiny for Louise is 3.

Step 4 - Review the Meanings of the Numbers below

Meanings of the Numbers

Note: Your Destiny number is only 1 of many that collectively represent who you are. Remember that you are like an oil painting, a blend of many colours. If you relate strongly to a particular number, it will either appear in your core numbers or is influencing you at this time.

1 Destiny

If your destiny is 1, you are here to demonstrate courage and leadership. You are the pioneer, the visionary, the risk-taker.

The shape of the 1, standing tall, like a single pillar is just that - independence. You are here to discover your inner-self, your identity, and to courageously move forward into the unknown.

Regardless of whether you do so, you have the potential to demonstrate leadership, originality and ambition. You will not take kindly to people standing in your way. You can fulfill many roles that require you to be sure of who you are, and lead others to do the same - inventor, writer, politician, successful in business - any area of life that you are driven to succeed. By demonstrating strength and perseverance, you will achieve your goals. People will look to you because of your confidence.

Because of your drive, and you may come across to others as impatient towards others. Your self-belief could become self-centred and arrogant if you do not bring yourself into balance. You may be so focused on your goals that you lack to see what is really happening around you and as such, alienating people around you.

It is possible that you do not identify yourself as a leader because often, 1’s do not put themselves in that category. You may have been a loner. Know that true leadership is having the courage to demonstrate the authenticity of who you are. You task is to believe in yourself, no matter what, and bring forth whatever is within, out into the world.

Question: what do you believe within yourself that you can find the courage to act upon?

2 Destiny

If your destiny is 2, you are here as a peacemaker and a diplomat. As such, you are learning to trust your intuition and sensitive nature.

You possess the ability to work in partnership with other people. The 2 is about duality, togetherness in perfect balance. You have a highly developed sense of intuition. Your sensitive response to other people may make you doubt yourself and your ideas, yet in fact, the quiet subtle thoughts you may often have are manifestations of a greater wisdom that is available to you.

You will seek peace and harmony in your relationships and environment, and as such will work well with others in order to reach a common goal. The shape of the 2, looks like a person kneeling in the prayer position - quiet and unassuming, yet so flexible and resilient due to the grounded connection you have with the earth. Those with a destiny of 2 can be found in any role where diplomacy, tact and resilience is required.

Your goal is to find balance and harmony within yourself so you can use these gifts in all that you do. You must learn to listen to your inner-self and come to trust what you find. Take into account what other people say and do, but be guided by what your intuition tells you is right.

Question: how can increase saying what is needed whilst staying true to your core values?

3 Destiny

If you destiny is 3, you are here to express joy and creativity from within.

The 3 is an open shape. It is trusting and friendly. If you have a destiny of a 3, you are here to discover joy and happiness, sharing creative expression from within, into the outer world. You are inspiring, positive and outgoing. There is a certain bounce to your character that people just love to be around.

Your goal is to find what it is within, that longs to be expressed. There is much potential for you in the arts such as writing, speaking, music, theatre - any activity that is an expression of your soul, and brings your joy.

Question: what brings you the greatest joy?

4 Destiny

If your destiny is a 4, you are here to establish a strong foundation between heaven and earth.

You are a builder and a doer. You work hard to achieve a stable foundation on which to live. Security, foundation, reliability, methods, and structure is important to you. You are the bedrock of society. The shape of the 4, with a good solid base shows how strong and resilient you can be.

You are likely to be drawn to work that requires you to use a systematic approach, or using your highly developed sense of order. Obvious examples are The Armed Services, National Security, Law & Order, Teaching, Social Work, Nursing, Parenting - any role that establishes a secure foundation for yourself or others. It is not necessary to have a clearly defined role or career - this is who you are, and what you are aiming for - there are so many ways in which this can be achieved.

Your challenge is to be open to living life to the fullest, without fear of uncertainty. You are building a solid foundation for the life you are here to experience - don’t allow the systems you have in place, dictate your future. Be adaptable and know that your true strength and security comes from within.

Question: How can you use your greatest strength to incorporate more freedom and flexibility?

5 Destiny

If your destiny is a 5, you are to experience freedom of expression and open communication.

Freedom and flexibility are highly important to you. The 5, open on all sides, likes to experience it all. You can get on with people from all walks of life due to your open outlook, and curiosity. Travel, change, adventure, diversity are all things that you long to experience. You are a gifted communicator and would make an excellent salesperson, lawyer, public relations or politician. Variety is paramount and you will do well in any area that fascinates or excites you. You have a wonderful way of expressing yourself and have a creative streak.

You can work well with others but only if you are not limited or restrained in any way. Making your own choices is highly important to you.

You need to be careful of not becoming a rolling stone. Your challenge is to learn to apply some focus so that you can bring your chosen passion to perfection. True-freedom requires some boundary and discipline and here you will find self-mastery.

Question: how can you identify what is worth pursuing, and what is not?

6 Destiny

If your destiny is a 6, you are here to discover and demonstrate love.

You are here to experience love and harmony with those around you and all of your life experiences have the purpose of teaching you about love, relationships, and responsibility. You have a natural ability with any area of natural beauty - children, animals, gardening. You have creative and artistic flair that may not have been developed if your service to others has taken the forefront. You are good friend and natural counselor, considered by others to be responsible with a heightened sense of right and wrong.

You have a gift of harmony and balance and as such may find yourself in any role where this is put to good use. Be careful to not interfere where it is not wanted, for we all have free will to walk the paths of our choosing. You need to carefully choose your projects, ensuring that your sense of duty does leads you to places where your heart does not sing. You are an expression of love, and your role is to share this love to inspire and lift others to be who they are.

Question: what do you ‘want’ to do, rather than ’should’ do?

7 Destiny

If your destiny is a 7, you are here to discover truth and trust so that may share this with others.

You are a seeker of truth. The 7 is like the wise man, bended over and carrying his lantern. He desires to light up the way with what is real, and what is not. The 7 is often referred to as a spiritual number, for many reasons including the desire to ‘know’ could lead you into metaphysical areas.

You are here to learn the truth that resides within yourself and as such will benefit from time spent alone. You are equipped with a fine mind that enables you to discern illusion from reality.  Be careful to not depend entirely on your intellect for the greater wisdom of the world, cannot be mastered and controlled with our rational thinking. You are required to find faith and trust in things that are of the heart and soul - that brings meaning, not explanation.

Bring more ceremony and sacredness into your life. You will benefit from any activity that celebrates and honors the divine spirit of who you are, and your place as one with the universe. Giving thanks before eating, enjoying the sunrise or sunset, taking time to be quiet, or observing the cycles of the moon are such examples.

8 Destiny

If your destiny is 8, you are here to find balance between heaven and earth. You seek power, balance and harmony.

The shape of the 8 shows spiritual abundance and material abundance working together in perfect balance. You are a spiritual and human being, and denial of either one will limit the potential that lies within you. You have great power to manifest what you desire and free-will dictates that you can choose to manifest from the ego, from spirit, or to bring into balance, all that you are.

You can achieve what you set out to and as such possess a fine business mind capable of running any enterprise. You have leadership ability, and are an excellent judge of other people’s character. You are a planner, organiser, and natural manager. Banks and Financial Institutions, Occupations of Law and Order, Administrators, Military, Entrepreneurs, Engineers are all areas where your talents could be well-used.

Your challenge is to find balance between your vision, and the realities of being here on earth. Do not pursue money for money sake. Demonstrate that true wealth comes from manifesting what you desire with the highest ideals, and the universal law of attraction will return abundance to you, beyond your wildest dreams.

Question: How can you discover and demonstrate true wealth?

9 Destiny

If your destiny is 9, you are here to demonstrate and teach integrity and wisdom.

You are a visionary, here to achieve a better world. You desire to become the best person you can be, and help others to do the same. You desire to make other people’s lives better in some way. As an idealist, you may have large dreams, perhaps seeing yourself influence the many, and may seek fame.

The 9, since divisible by 3 means that you have a wealth of artistic or creative ability. You may find yourself in the arts, writing or speaking. However, your deep sense of wanting to create a better world may direct you in areas such as social work, teaching, counseling, or ministerial work. The shape of the 9 completes on itself, which shows that you are completing an area of learning and you are here to ‘finish’ by applying all that you have learnt over many lifetimes. As such you have a great deal of wisdom that may have been evident from a young age.

You are to remember that life is such a precious gift and to experience it with depth and love, knowing that all experiences, however painful they may have been, were for your highest soul growth. Allow your love and integrity to shine through as a leading example to others.

Question: how can you use your heart, your most valuable asset, to radiate here on earth, all that you are?

Master Numbers

If the final two digits were 11or 22 before reducing to a single digits, also read the relevant part below:

11 - The Master Visionary

This is a highly powerful and intuitive number providing you with connection to the higher realms. You are a channel for higher vibrations which can provide you with psychic information that you may not have even noticed. You may have sensed you were a little different, but the qualities of the combined 11 to a 2, may have caused you to withdraw and think you were wrong due to your sensitive and unassuming nature.

Unless you learn to control this highly sensitive side of you, you may experience emotional turmoil in your life. A grounding vocation, connecting you with the earth would be highly beneficial. When you are in balance, you will be gifted with a great deal of insight that you can naturally teach and benefit others with. If you have a vision, or a dream, trust that it can be achieved.

22 - The Master Builder

You have an ability to put into practice, that which the Master 11, dreams of. You are a creator of the higher realms. You may have dreams of creating something that will change humanity, or have some lasting impact on the world. It may take you a lifetime to build a solid foundation for your dream, using the characteristics of the 2 to ensure you demonstrate patience, harmony and diplomacy. Know that you are builder of peace.

The 22 reduces to a 4 which is rooted in security. The no-risk factor may have caused you to self-doubt and abandon your projects in fear of the unknown. If you have this number, know that you were gifted with the potential to make it happen. This is not a scheme that will happen overnight, you are building something over the course of this lifetime that may support the world.

Step 2:Your Life Path..

Your Life Path number gives an outline of the opportunities, challenges, and lessons you will encounter in this lifetime. Your Life path is the road you are travelling, and as such, the landscape you experience. It reveals the opportunities and challenges you will face in life.

How to calculate..

Reduce each the month, day and year of your birth date to a single-digit. Then add the 3 resulting digits together and reduce the total again to a single-digit.

Example: October 25, 1962

October is the 10th month.  Reduce 10 to a single-digit.  1 + 0 = 1

The day of birth is 25.  Reduce 25 to 7 (2 + 5 = 7).

The year of birth is 1962.  Reduce 1962 to 1 + 9 + 6 + 2 = 18.  1 + 8 = 9  The year 1962 reduces to 9.

Add together the three resulting single digits.

month = 1 +

day = 7 +

year = 9

 Total is 17. 1+ 7 = 8.

The Life Path number is 8.

You can just add all the numbers together without separating into month, day, year and this is one way to check your calculation. For example 1 + 0 + 2 + 5 + 1 + 9 + 6 + 2 = 26. Add the double digits together 2 + 6 = 8.

However, if you were to do this, you would lose some important information. In numerology, in addition to the Life Path number as one long theme, the month, day, and year of our birth set the stage/the theme for the beginning, middle and final part of our lives.

The beginning (month number, in this example 1) is when we finding out the nature of our being, the middle period (day number, in this example 7) is about coming to terms with being who we are in the world, and the final part (year number, in this example 9) is the opportunity for bringing our gifts and experience into mature fruition.

Meanings of the numbers..

Here are some keywords for each of the numbers so you can read about the characteristics of your life path, as well as the theme for the beginning, middle and end parts of your path. Step 3: Reflect

What have you discovered about yourself?

What did you suspect was true, that has been reinforced?

What have you learnt is not so true, that you can allow to fade away?

Your primary life purpose is to live in the present moment, for that is all you have. What does this exercise reveal about your secondary purpose? That is, what talent, passion, gift, longing for experience do you have?

Spiritual growth and healing on your spiritual journey!

One suggestion I would make to your Blog would be to include a contact page and an RSS feed to allow subscribing to your feed.

Great work!

Interesting that the numbers do reflect my personality, but what about people who use different calendar systems (ie, Chinese), non-US date format (as per your life path beginning, middle and end), different alphabets, etc? What about early man who had no concept of calendars or even names? None of this works or would have worked.

As a number 11 ‘Master Visionary’ my intuition suggests that we’ll find whatever we want to find in numerology. Good luck to those who find meaning and value in numerology as a tool, but to me it seems to be too exclusive to the last few hundred years of western civilisation.

I’ve still not found my purpose in life, but I believe it must transcend the written word (or number) and that I’ll find the answer rooted in nature or emotion and not something manufactured by humankind.

I’d be interested in your thoughts.

Hi James - what great questions!! I’ll do my best to explore them a little..

I’m thinking that divination has been around since the earliest known times of our existence. The I Ching, is a divination system which predates recorded history and is the oldest of all chinese texts. Prior to ‘artificial’means of divination such as numerology, runes, tarot, the interpretation of natural phenomena such as water, the flight path of birds, cloud formations etc were probably (and still are) used.

It is considered by some that numbers speak a universal language, speaking to our deeper consciousness as symbols. The relationship between all living things can be understood through their numerical patterns - check out Naure’s Phi, or the Golden Ratio in Nature - interesting.

We use numbers in this case as a tool to discover what may or may not be reflected within us, to discover our true essence - it’s like we have been using such tools as mirrors - as a way of communicating with our highest selves. What do we see? Do we like it? Does it ‘ring true’? If we calculated someones numbers that were ‘not true’- they would check them against their internal system, they would have a knowing beyond the mind whether there was truth being reflected in what they were reading. Also, as a complex of sub-personalities, there are all archetypes of all numbers within us, yet some seem to be stronger than others, giving us different personality traits, different desires, motivations. Why is this? Interesting question.

I sometimes ponder the ‘accuracy’ of numerology and question whether we see what we wish to see (especially when our ego/mind is involved) and I’m sure there is some truth in that. Yet, this to me is the same as asking ‘what is real?’, ‘what is truth?’, ‘what is the meaning of life?’ As I suspect you ‘know’ there is perhaps no truth that the mind can fathom because the mind is limited by its form. This is how purpose, as you suggest, is actually experience of the now, experiencing and being the energy/consciousness that we are, channelled and experienced through our form - so perhaps our primary purpose is not to ‘know’at all, but to BE.

However, we are human so part of our life’s mission is perhaps to come to know who we are, who we are not and make the most of this limitation of being human (I mean limitation in the sense that our energy vibration is experienced with boundary so we can experience what form is).

Numerology is a tool that enables us to reflect on our human condition, to know who we are, who we are not, and to bring ourselves in greater alignment and balance. Your reflections tell me that in this case, numerology has served its purpose, here in this moment of time, to remind you of the wisdom that you are, which transcends all form, and all tools.

Different cultures/parts of the world will have tools that reflect their outerworld, their own expression of time & date. The chinese I believe assign different meanings to the numbers in comparison to western (pythagorean) numerology. The Chaldean Method of numerology is cited as some to be ‘more accurate’ than the pythagorean method (I must look into it so I don’t have an opinion) but this again raises the same question about what has the most truth? My thinking is that like religion, all contain an element of truth, it’s more about what you do with that truth (or lack of it maybe).

It’s like we are looking for experiences and tools in life that reflect this truth and I suspect that whilst we are living, breathing beings, we may get a glimpse, but we will never ‘know’ this truth. It’s beyond knowing. If it helps you to come to know yourself more, and leading you to ‘be’ yourself more so you a step closer to living in peace and harmony within, it is valuable, whatever it is.

Anyway, these are my thoughts, thank you for the invitation!

Louise,

I think you hit the nail on the head with your point about different cultural methods of numerology and the comparison with different religions; there is no right or wrong religion, as it’s all down to our own individual perspective. However, there are many religions which claim to be the only true religion, when really we should also look at the alternative religions to gain a holistic view and different perspectives before we decide what works best for us as individuals…hmm, my train of thought is heading towards subjective reality, so I’ll leave it there.

Thanks for the thoughts.
